The Eye Slugger is Ultraseven's signature weapon, being described as a Space Boomerang . The crest on Ultraseven's head that can be detached and used as a projectile or melee weapon. It is Seven's most well-known weapon, and possibly the most famous of all Ultra items, as well as being one of the most iconic and inspiring items to come from the Ultraman Series, being the base of most, if not all other Sluggers that came after it.

Conception

Etymology

The name "Eye Slugger" was coined during the early pre-production on the series, which was going to be called "Ultra Eye", hence "Eye Slugger." When the title of the series was changed to Ultraseven, the name of the weapon remained "Eye Slugger"—according to official Tsuburaya Productions production notes, published in Kodansha Official File Magazine Ultraman Vol. 4 & 5: "Ultraseven" (2005).

Usage

When not in use, Seven mounts the Eye Slugger on his head as a crest. The Eye Slugger can be used as a projectile weapon or as a close range combat weapon, and is cable of cutting through immensely dense objects. Seven can also direct energy into the Eye Slugger as to make its impact more powerful as well as splitting into multiple Eye Sluggers to deal more damage to an opponent.

• Reconstructed Pandon: The rebuilt Pandon briefly caught Seven's Eye Slugger mid-throw, seemingly giving it an advantage over the Ultra's own weapon, but Seven regain control of his weapon mid-throw, changing the course from him to beheading Pandon's neck. In Ultra Kaiju Battle Breeders, Reconstructed Pandon wields Seven's Eye Slugger and throws it against its opponent as a form of finishing move.
• Ultraman Leo: In a manga adaptation of Leo's home series by Mamoru Uchiyama, Leo gains the Eye Slugger as a keepsake from Seven after losing his transformation by the Giras Brothers, as well as dying in Silverbloome's attack as his human form Dan Moroboshi. Leo uses the weapon to prevent the Black Directive from fleeing in the middle of their fight, avenging all of his victims and Seven's deaths.
• Hiroshi Hyuga: In Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle: Never Ending Odyssey, Seven lost his weapon in the middle of fighting Armored Darkness and gets possessed as a result on Planet Hammer. It ended up in ZAP SPACY officers Hyuga and Rei's possession (being shrunk into palm-sized no less) while they were stranded there, where Hyuga first uses the weapon to knock Reimon out of his Reionic Burst form's berserking power. Rei retains the Eye Slugger-shaped scar as a result of this, preventing him from reentering Reionic Burst mode ever again.
• Rei/Reimon: The human Reionics who has his own form by tapping into Reiblood's power. He uses the Eye Slugger to fight off Armored Mefilas via the Darkness Broad, the two clashing their blades in the process of mirroring Seven's conflict with the Armored Darkness. To further parallel their ties to respective weapons, whereas Armored Mefilas resurrected Armored Darkness and gets betrayed as a result, Rei freed Seven by hurling said weapon to the sentient armor and temporarily gaining Miclas.

New Generation Heroes

As a result of New Generation Heroes' recurring trend of using past Ultraman powers, Seven's Eye Slugger manifests as part of his related powers.

• Ultraman Orb:
  • Emerium Slugger: A form that fuses both Seven and Zero's own powers, Orb gains an unnamed crest weapon above his head, which he can remove and does the exact same movements as Seven's Ultra Knock Tactic.
  • Slugger Ace: A form that fuses both Seven and Ace's own powers. Instead of a crest weapon, Orb gains the bladed weapon Vertical Slugger that is analogous to the Eye Slugger and Ace's Ultra Guillotine firing effect.
• Ultraman Geed:
  • Solid Burning: A form that harnesses the powers of Seven and Leo Capsules. Geed obtains the Geed Slugger that he can remove and uses as a retractable weapon. Additionally, he can also plug it to either his leg or forearm to perform Boost Slugger Kick or Boost Slugger Punch respectively.
  • Royal Megamaster: A form that harnesses the powers of King and Belial Capsules. The King Sword that Geed uses can harness the powers of all main six members of Ultra Brothers (in addition to King), hence by using Seven Capsule, Geed can initiate Slugger Spark, manifesting an energy construct of Seven's Eye Slugger to destroy his opponent.
• Ultraman Blu: Using the R/B Slugger Blu, he can harness the power of Seven Crystal to initiate Wide Shot Slugger. When he was seen using this technique, Blu was in Flame form and the Eye Slugger construct burns fiery energy, suggesting that his Flame form had a minor influence to this attack.

Powers

• Ultra Knock Tactics : Ultraseven can direct energy into the Eye Slugger before firing the weapon towards enemies. It has a combustible effect and can destroy enemies in one hit.
• Illusionic Slugger : When a blue variant of the Ultra Superior is fired at the Eye Slugger, it can can multiply into many copies.

Seven's Eye Slugger at the conclusion of his battle with King Joe in Heisei Ultraseven, displaying the damage it sustained from prolonged use

• It has been incorrectly referred to as an "Ice Lugger" by various sources.
• In the Heisei Ultraseven series, Seven's Eye Slugger was broken on the top at the end of an episode. This was because he repeatedly struck King Joe's hard Pedanium body in the same spot until the robot was defeated by his Ultra Knock Tactics technique.
  • However, in the next episode, it appeared back to normal.
