Trivia[]
- The production team had already decided on the concept of "sending Hanejiro home" early in the production stage of the series, so relevant arrangements were made from the very beginning:[1]
- The idea of sending Hanejiro home was actually established as an "unfinished task" during episode 16. The initial concept was to make Hanejiro a creature used in warfare, but due to the inability to produce a large number of Hanejiro models and a shortage of operators, the team ultimately decided on a simpler "homecoming" storyline.
- During the development of the plot, director Masaki Harada and the team started discussions from the script stage. Considering that it would be difficult to portray Hanejiro's owner as a full-fledged villain, they decided to introduce the concept of the "Demonic Stone" obtained from Planet Muzan, which causes Alien Fabiras A' personality to change and become the antagonist of this episode.
- According to Masaki Harada, Hanejiro was very popular with the children in the story, so the process of bringing Hanejiro home was designed to be simple and direct. The design of Alien Fabiras was initially inspired by a "modern version of the Alien Baltan" when discussed with Hiroshi Maruyama, and this sleek style was subtly retained in the character design.
- Since Hanejiro was operated by a puppet, many close-up shots made extensive use of CGI technology.
- Additionally, Hiroki Yamada, the younger brother of Mariya Yamada, made a special guest appearance in this episode.
- According to director Masaki Harada's 2000 interview:[2]
- In this episode, the interior design of Alien Fabiras' flying saucer was inspired by the style of stained glass windows found in churches. Harada mentioned that the initial filming was done using a green screen, followed by the creation of a full-scale model background to test the visual effects. Due to budget limitations, they could not build the entire interior set, so the art department crafted stained glass based on the design concept.
- This design was originally proposed by art director Yuji Terai, but the filming process faced many challenges. Due to the reflective surface, no matter where the camera moved, the reflections were always captured. As a result, the production team had to adjust the reflections to hide the filming process. Ultimately, because the dynamic effects were too complex, the task was handed over to the CG team, who used models to complete the work.
