History

Pre-Ultraman Blazar

Earth Garon0

SKaRD members introduced to Earth Garon

Earth Garon was secretly developed some time before the SKaRD was created.[7]Its entire set of accessories is essentially manufactured using technology derived from V99, and as a result, related information is classified as confidential documents.

Yasunobu Bando was transferred to the development team early to help build the mecha and give input for its weapons. The Man who Created SKaRD

EarthGaron vs Taganular

Earth Garon engaging Taganular

Earth Garon, piloted by member Anri and commanded by Captain Gento, was deployed to the Energy Fusion Institute in Kutsuba City, Ibaraki to battle Taganular. To avoid causing the kaiju to explode at the facility and draw it out to the sea, Earth Garon engaged the kaiju in its Close-Quarters Combat Mode. The mecha used its Earth Fire cannon to destroy one of Taganular's scythe arms. Subsequent attacks caused Earth Garon's left arm to become damaged by Taganular's energy burst. When the mecha was downed and unable to reactivate, Anri was instructed by Yasunobu on how to activate the Tail VLS. This allowed the missiles to launch and provide fire support for Ultraman Blazar. The Name is Earth Garon

Earth Garon 1st Leviera Battle

Earth Garon approaching the operation zone

When Leviera began developing a resistance to Novaio's FK1 antimicrobial, the SKaRD developed ampule rounds containing the FK1 solution. Armed with the special ammunition, Earth Garon was deployed as soon as the kaiju reappeared. Piloted by Yasunobu and commanded by Teruaki, Earth Garon shot the FK1 rounds into Leviera. Although the rounds hit their target, the FK1 showed no apparent signs of effectiveness. Earth Garon continued firing the rounds at the kaiju until the two were at point blank range. It was only then that the kaiju gave in to the antimicrobial and disintegrated. However, Earth Garon was unable to fully eliminate the kaiju.

Earth Garon Throwing

Earth Garon throwing a tank of liquid nitrogen at Leviera

Leviera was fighting Ultraman Blazar on the night of 7th June 2023 as Earth Garon was deployed to Novaio's head office. Following Emi's advice and Teruaki's orders, pilot Anri took a canister of liquid nitrogen from a nearby facility and threw it at the kaiju. Shooting at the canister and releasing its content, the kaiju was frozen in place. The defeat of Leviera was assisted by Blazar's Fork Burrade. Thus Fought Emi

Earth Garon vs Mega Shot

Performance test for the Mega Shot turrets

To conduct performance testing for the newest railgun system, Mega Shot, the GGF installed a pair of such turrets on a mountain at the Mt. Kirino Training Area, Ichinoji Village, Akita Prefecture. Piloted by Anri and commanded by Teruaki, Earth Garon was used to stress test the turrets' auto-aiming and projectile intercepting capabilities. The testing was a success until the awakening of Dorgo. Before Earth Garon could engage the kaiju, it was put out of action by Dorgo's attack. Fortunately, no further damage was received as the kaiju returned to slumber. Earth Garon was temporarily repaired and assisted Ultraman Blazar in the second battle. The mecha was able to shoot and disable the turrets with a special combat maneuver made by Yasunobu. The Mountain Roars

During Earth Garon's encounter with Dorgo, an Alien Cannan who was nearby shot the Aurora Beam at the mecha. Some time later, Earth Garon was remotely activated and became berserk by the aliens. As it arrived at the aliens' base to guard it, Earth Garon pursued SKaRD members but was intercepted by Ultraman Blazar. SKaRD member Yasunobu was able to regain control of the mecha, thus ending its rampage. The Invading Aurora

Earth Garon was deployed to intercept Nijikagachi, after GGF's attacks proved ineffective. The mecha and its crew were unable to bring down the kaiju in the first two battles, and was defeated in the latter.Rainbow Appears: Part 1 It was recovered and transported back to base, where it was hastily repaired. Earth Garon was then equipped with the untested Mod. 2 Special Combat Support Unit and returned to the scene. The mecha sent bolts of lasers at Nijikagachi and forced it to reveal the weak point located on its forehead. Because of the rail cannon's recoil, Earth Garon missed the target twice and made itself vulnerable to the kaiju's counterattacks. The mecha was temporarily disabled after dodging a beam attack, but was reactivated with limited movement. While Blazar was fighting the kaiju, Earth Garon fired the rail cannon in a more suitable stance and successfully destroyed the weak point.Rainbow Appears: Part 2

Cockpit

Earth Garon's cockpit is located inside the upper chest area. The mecha features a tandem cockpit design for two crewmen. To access the cockpit, the center chest plate would swing upward to allow the cockpit to shift out. The topside of the cockpit has two hatches, one for each pilot seat. When the mecha is in a roll program, the cockpit rotates vertically so that the pilots are in a suitable orientation.Moonlit Memories

When Earth Garon received its Mod. 3 upgrade, an additional tandem cockpit was installed inside the flight unit.[16]

In case of an emergency, pilots inside Earth Garon can exit from the same hatches and access the back of the mecha. The cockpit module also has an ejection system. However, it would not work if the mecha is downed by an EMP.[17]Escape

In standard protocol, it is manually piloted by either Anri or Yasunobu, and commanded from behind the pilot's seat by Captain Gento or Vice-Captain Teruaki respectively. Earth Garon can perform differently in combat depending on the pilot and pilot-in-command. When Earth Garon is in its Mod. 3 or Mod. 4 configuration, an optional two-person support crew can handle flight operations inside the flight unit while the core pilots control the mecha.

Power and Propulsion
  • Main Engine: Earth Garon uses liquid fuel for its main engines, enabling rapid deployment to operation zones at speeds up to Mach 4.The Name is Earth Garon Its high-power engines also allow the mecha to take off and land like a VTOL aircraft, and perform horizontal flight.[11] Yasunobu later reinforced Earth Garon's operating systems to be resilient to an electromagnetic pulse, but this can only withstand such a strong one, with Brood Gebalga's pulse still putting the machine down.
  • Auxiliary Power Unit (補助動力装置, Hojo Dōryoku Sōchi)/APU[11]: A support system onboard Earth Garon. Its purpose is to reactivate Earth Garon to allow minimal movement and weapons usage, in case the drive system and main engines fail. In the event that all power is lost, it can still be activated by pulling a lever at the base of Earth Garon's neck. The Name is Earth Garon
Powers and Weapons
  • Charged Particle Cannon “Earth Fire” (荷電粒子砲「アースファイア」, Kaden Ryūshi-hō Āsu Faia)[3][5][6]: A high-power energy weapon concealed inside the mouth. It can be charged and fired in a short amount of time. The weapon shoots out electrified electrons and ions at high speed, with temperatures high enough to melt the target.[11] It takes on an orange hue when fired at full power.
  • Vertical Launching System "Tail VLS" (バーチカルローチングシステム「テイルVLS」, Bāchikaru Rōchingu Shisutemu Teiru Bui Eru Esu)[3][5][6][18]: A vertical launch missile delivery system installed inside the tail of the mecha. It consists of two larger and three smaller cell modules. The larger modules house two cells while the smaller modules house a single cell. Different missile types can be equipped depending on the mission.[7][11]
    • Precision-Guided Missile (誘導弾, Yūdō-dan)[19]: Missiles of this type are not self-guided but are instead precision-guided by an operator, who is not the pilot, from a remote location.[20][11]
    • Wire-Guided Hypersonic Missile (有線誘導極超音速弾, Yūsen Yūdō Gokuchōonsoku-dan)[21]Moonlit Memories: Hypersonic missiles that have communication lines attached to the missile cells for pilot-controlled precision-guiding.
  • 105 mm Machine Howitzer “Earth Gun” (105ミリ機関榴弾砲「アースガン」, Hyakugo-Miri Kikan Ryūdanhō Āsu Gan)[3][5][6][22]: Earth Garon's arms are armed with a howitzer each. Their design allows them to fire explosive shells in quick successions. Because the howitzers fire at an angle, Earth Garon's pilot can make use of the environment and situation to deliver shells over obstacles.
    • FK1 Ampule Round: Specially-made vial rounds containing the chemical company Novaio's FK1 antimicrobial solution. These rounds were used to pierce Leviera's outer skin layer and inject the solution directly into its body. Thus Fought Emi
  • Close Quarters Combat Mode (近接戦闘CQCモード, Kinsetsu Sentō Shi Kyū Shi Mōdo)[23][6][3][7]: Although Earth Garon is armed with various ranged weapons, it would often find itself in situations where such weapons are infeasible. Switching to CQC Mode, Earth Garon can close in on its target and fight effectively up close.
  • Roar: Earth Garon can produce sounds resembling a kaiju. It would often project such noises to announce its presence, intimidate its foes, and warn others that it is about to open fire.
  • Eye Display Change: While Earth Garon has its default kaiju eyes, its eyes can change expressions as a form of communication similar to traffic display screens.
    • Normal (通常時, Tsūjō-ji)[24]/Intimidating Face (威嚇顔, Ikaku-gao)[25]: Often displayed when Earth Garon is operating normally. The Man who Created SKaRD
    • Damaged (ダメージ, Damēji)[24]/Swirling Eyes (ぐるぐる巻きの目, Gurugurumaki no Me)[25]: Displayed when Earth Garon is damaged and put out of action. The Man who Created SKaRDThe Mountain Roars
    • Smiling (笑顔, Egao)[24]/Smiling Face (にっこり顔, Nikkori Kao)[25]: Displayed when Earth Garon's pilots expressed their gratitude toward Ultraman Blazar after the defeat of Leviera. Thus Fought Emi
    • Brainwashed State (洗脳状態, Sen'nō Jōtai)[24]: When Earth Garon goes on auto-pilot or becomes involuntarily controlled by outside parties, its eyes glow red.The Invading Aurora
    • Ferocious (凶暴, Kyōbō)[24]: Seen during the battle against Demaaga, its in-universe function was unclear.Parent and Child
Special Support Units

Additional mission support attachments can be equipped onto Earth Garon's back to enhance its performance. When a backpack unit is attached, a "Mod. #" or "Model #" is added to the end of Earth Garon's official name. For example, when Earth Garon has the Mod. 2 Unit attached, its full official name would be Type 23 Special Tactical Armored Kaiju Model 2 (23にーさん式特殊戦術機甲獣Model 2, Ni-san-shiki Tokushu Senjutsu Kikōjū Moderu Tsū).[26] The units can be detached from Earth Garon depending on the situation. Once detached, they would automatically land on a surface with the help of built-in thrusters.

  • Earth Garon Special Combat Support Unit (アースガロン特殊戦闘支援ユニット, Āsu Garon Tokushu Sentō Shien Yunitto)[26]/Mod. 2 Unit (Modモッド.2ツーユニット, Moddo Tsū Yunitto, "2" is read as "Two")[27]: A backpack unit armed with two unique heavy weapons fixed above the shoulders.
    • 600 mm Rail Howitzer (600mm電磁榴弾砲, Roppyaku-Miri Denji Ryūdanhō)[26]/Rail Cannon (レールキャノン, Rērukyanon)[26]: On the right is a large caliber electromagnetic weapon capable of shooting at targets located outside the stratosphere. Due to the weapon's massive recoil making it harder to aim, it is most effective on closer targets when Earth Garon is in a crouched position on all fours. Its output is later improved to minimize the recoil. The rail cannon has a standard ammunition count of 12 to 14.
    • Multipurpose Laser Weapon System (多目的レーザー兵器システム, Tamokuteki Rēzā Heiki Shisutemu)[26]/Multipurpose Laser: Armed on the left side, this laser weapon system can fire either a focused or diffusion beam attack. As long as it has a power supply, the laser weapon has unlimited ammunition.
      • Focused Mode (収束モード, Shūsoku Mōdo)[28][29]: Concentrated bolts of energy projectiles.
      • Diffuse Mode (拡散モード, Kakusan Mōdo)[26]: Numerous individual thin and long streaks of beams fired out of the muzzle lenses.
  • Earth Garon Special Flight Support Unit (アースガロン特殊飛行支援ユニット, Āsu Garon Tokushu Hikō Shien Yunitto)[30]/Mod. 3 Unit (Modモッド.3スリーユニット, Moddo Surī Yunitto, "3" is read as "Three"): A wing unit that greatly improves Earth Garon's aerial combat performance, enabling it to achieve speeds up to Mach 9. It utilizes the Propulsion System Uranus Drive (推進システム・ウラヌスドライブ, Suishin Shisutemu Uranusu Doraibu)[13], a new gravity control system sharing the principle of how Deltandal flies, to emit light particles that would generate shock waves and propel the mecha. The flight unit helps Earth Garon operate in the stratosphere (6~50 km above surface)[13] and offers potential future upgrades to fly in space[30]. There is an additional tandem cockpit inside the flight unit.[16]
  • Earth Garon Mod. 4 (アースガロンModモッド.4フォー, Āsu Garon Moddo Fō, "4" is read as "Four")[15]: Earth Garon's most powerful upgrade with all existing special support units attached and modified for operations in space. While the core pilot and pilot-in-command focus on controlling the mecha, the other crew inside the flight unit handles space flight.[31]
Additional Equipment
  • Long Barrel Type Mega Shot (長砲身タイプメガショット, Naga Hōshin Taipu Mega Shotto)[32]: A modified Mega Shot high muzzle velocity electromagnetic railgun with an extended barrel, bipod, handle, and power cables. It was used by Earth Garon to fire the 20-meter-long Tilsonite Spear at Gebalga's EMP-emitting organ.[33]
  • Tilsonite Spear (チルソナイトスピア, Chirusonaito Supia): A spare Tilsonite Spear that Earth Garon used in the operation against Brood Gebalga. Instead of using a Mega Shot to launch the spear from a distance, Earth Garon held it by hand. Originally intended to pierce Brood Gebalga's EMP-emitting organ, the spear was later given to Ultraman Blazar to forge into a new Tilsonite Sword.Light and Flame
Launch Procedure

The pilots of Earth Garon would enter from the top hatches on the protruded cockpit. Once they are inside, the cockpit would retract into the mecha before the armored cover swings down to protect the opening. While the pilots startup the systems one by one, personnel at the SKaRD Command Post would work with the maintenance crew to run system checks. Once all systems are confirmed operating normally, Earth Garon and its tower would be transported to the elevator shaft at the back. They would then ascend to the surface while the Earth Gate protecting the launch area opens.

Once on the surface, the tower would shift backwards to allow clearance for the liftoff sequence. After confirmations with the SKaRD CP and Earth Garon's pilots, the base crew would commence the auto launch sequence. As Earth Garon's main engines ignite, the sound suppression water system on the tower would start spraying at the launch area. After Earth Garon has lifted off and is at a certain altitude, it would perform a roll program to head to the operation zone as soon as possible.

In Ultraman Blazar's tie-in manga from Televi-Kun magazine, Earth Garon receives two environmental-specific equipment in its fight against Jaranga.

Trivia

  • Voice actor (EGOISS system): Akira Ishida, Clifford Chapin (English dub)
  • Suit actor: Shinnosuke Ishikawa
  • According to Hideyoshi Iwata during his interview with Kiyotaka Taguchi, the former likens Earth Garon to a hound, due to Ultraman Blazar's image being invoked as a primitive hunter from his home planet.
    • Earth Garon's canine motif becomes more clear after the fact by the dog/wolf howls incorporated into its roars, as well as by the horns above its eyes actually being more like a wolf's ears.
