Guranfan is said to live within a card with a picture of a door on it. The young boy Akira believes the strange tale told him by the old man Tomano is just a fairy tale. But, a few days later, he learns that the story is actually true.
This episode marks the return of actor Hideyo Amamoto, who often appeared in Tsuburaya Productions' works during the Showa era, and is his final appearance in the Ultraman Series due to his passing in March 2003.
Amamoto previously portrayed Kenji Tomono in Ultra Q episode 28 "Open Up!", who has the same surname as Amamato's character in this episode.
After finishing filming, Amamoto commented that "This is a truly wonderful story."[2]
Although some of this episode took place in summer, filming was done during the winter period of Japan.
The violin piece played by Tomano is the famous "Meditation" by French composer Jules Massenet. Harada, known for his strong dedication to music, felt that Ultraman Cosmos lacked pieces suitable for a fantasy-themed work, which left him somewhat troubled. Ota came up with the idea that introducing a guest character as a musician would naturally allow the use of classical music in the story. This became one of the reasons for setting Tomano's character as a musician.
It is said that Ai Ota wrote the script for this episode while listening to "Meditation."
