is a long-time suit actor for theSince 2017, Terai has been a action choreographer for the main series and movies.
Career[]
He aspired to be an artist since junior high school and was active as a stage actor in high school. In his third year of college, he applied for a job at Tsuburaya Productions, but was initially rejected as they weren't hiring graduates. However, after their job applications closed, he was given an interview and was hired, one of the reasons being his height.
In 2013, he appeared in a The New York Times article that focused on his and others' work on Ultraman Ginga.[1]
Roles[]
Video games[]
Year | Title | Role | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
2004 | Ultraman Fighting Evolution 3 | Motion-capture actor[Note 6] |
- ↑ Credited as Ultraman Cosmos in episodes 1-2, while credited under "special skill action" in episodes 3-10, 12, 14-15, 17-19, 21-44, 46-51, 53-65.
- ↑ 2.0 2.1 2.2 2.3 Role not specified in credits, but is likely to be an action-related role such as a stunt performer or suit actor based on its placement in the credits.
- ↑ Credited under "stunts", but presumed to be a suit actor.
- ↑ Terai and Daisuke Fukuda played Imit-Ultraman (SR) and Imit-Ultraseven (SR),[12] but it is unknown who was who.
- ↑ In an interview with Tatsuomi Hamada, he mentioned that Terai played Belial when Riku was falling to darkness, which occurs in episode 17.[25] Given that the suit actor for Belial's Reionics form in episodes 12, 16-17 and 23-25 was uncredited, Terai may have portrayed Belial in all of those episodes. Satoru Okabe played Belial in episode 1, but plays Ultraman Zero in said episodes. Yoshiki Kuwabara is explicitly credited for portraying Belial's Chimeraberus and Atrocious forms.
- ↑ Credited under "actors", but as the Ultraman Fighting Evolution series does not involve any live-action, this is presumed to refer to motion-capture actors.

Trivia[]
- Terai initially turned down the offer to portray Ultraseven 21 as he felt he still lacked practice, having only been in CASTAFF for one year at the time.[2]
- Originally, Toshio Miyake was planned to have Daisuke Terai's role as an amusement park employee in Neos episode 9, but this was changed last minute as Miyake had already appeared in episode 3. As a result, Terai had to quickly learn his lines an hour before the shoot, and because he had rushed to the set, didn't finish putting on his employee uniform, so he appears in the episode with his overalls half off. This was also Terai's first time showing his face in the Ultraman Series.[2]
- In a 2017 interview, Terai stated that Ultraman Nexus was one of his favorite characters that he had portrayed so far.[33]
- According to a 2021 interview with Terai and Hideyoshi Iwata:[26]
- When choreographing Z's human-sized fight alongside Yoko in episode 7, he wanted to avoid making Z appear "gentlemanly with women".
- Iwata was unable to appear as Ultraman Z in episode 13 of Z as his wife was giving birth at the time of recording, so Terai had to fill in. Knowing that Iwata was very particular about Z's image, he was worried when director Naoyuki Uchida asked him to exaggerate his movements and add ad-libs, with him even apologizing to Iwata afterwards, but was relieved when he learned that his "most reserved" takes had been used in the final edit.
- Koichi Sakamoto had originally asked Terai to portray the unnamed GAFJ pilot in episode 22, but Terai suggested Iwata play the role as a "baby shower gift".
- When director Masayoshi Takesue asked him to cameo in R/B, he was surprised that his role did not involve any action. He also delibrately wore his brainwave absorption headgear over his hat to make himself more recognizable.
- According to both Naoyuki Uchida and Kohshu Hirano, Terai and Iwata's depictions of Ultraman Z are subtly different. Uchida stated Terai's portrayal was more "cute" compared to Iwata's more "deliberate" style, while Hirano described Terai's portrayal as having a "warm aura" compared to Iwata's portrayal having a "divine feel".[29][28]
