"To see fools destroyed by a weapon of their own making, and to hear their cries of agony! I implant fear into planets with civilizations. They make weapon after weapon to defend themselves, and finally, with a weapon they created, they destroy their own civilization. I have a name for it - The Civilization Self-Destruction Game!"
- ―Celebro, Ultraman Z episode 24, The Game to Extinction
The Civilization Self-Destruction Game is a series of games enacted by Celebro as the player to incite destruction on targeted planets and civilizations. The game is also part of the major plot point in Ultraman Z.
History[]
Pre-Ultraman Z[]
"He calls it the Civilization Self-Destruction Game. If it’s up to us, we’ll call it with sillier names."
- ―Alien Borg Madam Graia.
The Civilization Self-Destruction Game is pretty much heard of in the dark network of the underground world, as it is tied to Celebro's modus operandi for his invasion scheme. Four-Dimensional Capriccio The steps for creating this game goes by:
- Celebro provides a civilization with an over-technology.
- The civilization will use that technology to defend themselves from the monster attack.
- Said civilization will expand and improve upon said technology even further.
- Once the technology reach its strongest point, he will hijack it to destroy the very civilization that created it.
- Celebro then target another civilization by dropping the last over-technology he used to repeat the cycle from stage 1.
At some point, Celebro created a different variant of his game by approaching Phalaris and provided him with the Fruit of Life. Phalaris uses this very fruit to research the DNA altering technology. The result is the conversion of his employee Sagittari into a cyborg (as well as Grigio Raiden) and the creation of gene bomb to eradicate an entire civilization. Phalaris decided to provide this weapon to the mercenary he gathered for a tournament. The winner will obtain the physical device, but the losers will receive the blueprints so that his weapons can be manufactured for civilizations to destroy each other and obtain peace. This plan was launched at the height of Interstellar Alliance's cold war with Imbat Federation, hoping to take advantage of their escalating conflict through said weapon. Unfortunately for him, his plan was put to a stop when the Alliance sent Jugglus Juggler rescue Biranki and retrieve the Fruit of Life. Meanwhile, Grigio Raiden destroyed the Federation's captial Planet Baphomet, which nevertheless played out in the game's rule to destroy a civilization. Celebro then sent Raiden to Planet Earth where mankind would study the monster's physiology as the foundation of SC Units and eventually leading to the formation of STORAGE. The Game to Extinction Re:STORAGE Unbeknownst to him, Juggler had hitched a ride onto said monster, hoping to see the progress of Celebro's recent game.
As the events above took place, Celebro had launched another round of Civilization Self-Destruction Game on another civilization, one that would result in the creation of Genegarg. Jugglus Juggler Chronicle: Ja no Michi wa Hebi
Ultraman Z[]
In the middle of the Ultra League's war with The Kingdom, Celebro stole the Z Riser and Ultra Medals in order to make use of Ultraman Hikari's inventions for his own personal gain. Arriving on Earth after Genegarg's destruction, Celebro possessed Shinya Kaburagi and bid his time by formulating his own series of schemes in order to study the Ultra Medal technology to create the Kaiju Medals. In addition, he also found enjoyment in the recurring monster attacks that STORAGE fought against in the daily basis, either by experimenting with the stolen technology or overseeing the escalating arms race of STORAGE's SC Units resulted from Grigio Raiden's arrival on Earth. Unfortunately, he came across Jugglus Juggler, a fellow alien who also hide amongst mankind and clashes with Celebro's plans either for his own personal gain or out of the need to protect his subordinates. At some point after exiting Kaburagi, Celebro took on Director Kuriyama as his next cover to disband STORAGE and replace them with SAAG in order to have a direct control over the development of the fourth SC Unit, Ultroid Zero. A month later after a piloting test with Ultroid Zero, Juggler's latest intervention into his plan forces him to mark all former STORAGE members as criminals with the order shoot to kill and eventually shifts his possession to Yoko Nakashima to hijack the Ultroid Zero. Using the recovered Ultraman Belial Medal, Celebro has the robot absorbing several monsters to evolve it into Destrudos as the end product of his plans. The Game to Extinction After defeating Ultraman Z, Destrudos continued to lay waste on major cities across the globe before finally returning to Japan, savoring the STORAGE members and their SC Units as his final boss level. Unfortunately when Haruki managed to rescue Yoko, Celebro abandoned her to directly control Destrudos through his own parasitism and ended up being defeated by Ultraman Z. The alien parasite survives the destruction of its chimeric monster, but Juggler blocked his escape route, long enough for Yuka and a vengeful Kaburagi to capture Celebro for dissection. Ultraman Trigger: Episode Z[]
Upon his escape, Celebro decided to restart the Civilization Self-Destruction Game by collaborating with Leyrah. This also includes possessing Haruki Natsukawa to gain control on Ultraman Z and summoning Destrudos to support Evil Trigger. At the end, Celebro was defeated with relative ease and recaptured by Himari Nanase before he could lay off the foundation of his games. Ultraman Trigger: Episode Z
Trivia[]
- The Civilization Self-Destruction Game is a horrifying take on the concept of METEOR from Ultraman Mebius, as it involves a particular civilization reverse engineering a foreign technology to strengthen their arms. In this case, this is invoked by Celebro to ensure that the weapon shall backfire against its very creators.
- In Ja no Michi wa Hebi, the Alien Borg Madam Graia mentioned the game as part of her rant in regards to how invasion methods made by recent aliens are simply treated as entertainments instead of a planetary takeover. She also jokingly stated that if her clique of Alien Borg gangster were to participate, then they would come up with "sillier names".
- Exactly how Celebro's participation in Leyrah's plan would guarantee the restart of his Civilization Self-Destruction Game is unknown. It is possible that:
