Trivia[]
- This episode is a tribute to "Terrifying Cosmic Rays", the fifteenth episode of the original Ultraman, in which Gavadon first debuted.
- Both episodes share the same episode number (15).
- Sojiro Uchino, who as a child actor played Takashi-kun, one of the children who created Gavadon in the original episode, makes a cameo appearance in this episode as Takashi Uchino, a man interviewed by the TKB news reporter on the tsuchinoko incident.[7][8]
- One of the drawings in Arata's secret base is that of Ludwig van Beethoven. This is a reference to the classroom art exhibition scene in the beginning of the original episode where Beethoven's portrait is mistakenly put up with all the other kaiju drawings.
- Scriptwriter Takao Nakano commented that the final scene with Arata and Tsumugi bidding farewell to Jun and "disappearing" into the twilight was purposefully written such that not only Gavadon, but also the very existence of the siblings themselves, could almost be seen as a fantasy.[9]
- Director Kiyotaka Taguchi originally wanted the story to focus on a boy whose best friend met an untimely demise in a traffic accident and had left behind a drawing of Gavadon as a keepsake. The boy would then struggle with erasing the drawing to stop the kaiju but at the expense of losing the only remaining memento of his best friend, but Taguchi thought that this was too dark.[10]
- In the English dub, one of the children is played by voice actress Kara Edwards's son.[11]
