At SKIP Miyako City Branch is the second special episode of Ultraman Arc.

Synopsis

After leaving the Fujiyama City branch and being transferred to branches all over, Mr. Nakamura finally settles at the Miyako branch in Kansai.

Wait, the AI robot he meets there is a huge fan of Ultraman Arc!?

And as the odd duo starts to reflect about previous incidents, they also unleash their power of delusion!?

A search was conducted the other day in Hoshimoto City’s Kitsunegamori Forest, where the Onyx had been discovered.

Following the arduous fight between Ultraman Arc, Zadime, the galactic beast and the mysterious woman in black, the Onyx has vanished. After that, as a precaution to the distortion in space that was observed when the Onyx was present, the area underwent a thorough safety check over several days before the research team could set foot in the area.

The team consisted mostly of members of the Space Science Division accompanied by some skilled personnel from various SKIP branches. Based on their extensive kaiju knowledge, they assisted in the analysis of the effects that the Onyx had on Earth. Of course, Yuma, the Chief, Rin and YouPi were there. Yuma had just left the hospital and yet he was in great shape. As a local of Hoshimoto City, he not only handled his own work but also extended warm support to the team members from afar.

After a large-scale investigation, not a single trace of the Onyx was found.

There were also no signs of contamination from the residuals, so that’s a temporary relief. Even so…

As I wrote the other day, I just can’t accept the fact that such a vast amount of energy has disappeared without a trace. The other members also agree with that point, and believe that continuous search and observations are needed.

Now, one more thing that worries me is my own fate. Obviously, the Onyx is not the only incident the GDF is working on. Regardless of the continuance of the investigations and observations, this likely means that my time stationed at SKIP’s Hoshimoto City Branch will come to an end and I’ll return to the GDF headquarters to be assigned to another mission. My colleague at the Space Science Division mentioned that there was a high chance I would be returning.

I’ve been constantly thinking about this ever since the Onyx disappeared. Oddly enough, much like, or even more than the many issues that we faced, this has been weighing heavily in my mind. Of course, I never made these feelings known. Even so, I feel like it accidentally comes through when spending the day together, because I feel like everyone at the office has been more distant with me. No, that’s not it. They have been nicer to me. I think this thoughtfulness is a way to consider my feelings before I leave.

For example, before Yuma was even released from the hospital, I was just sitting on my desk, drinking coffee, when Rin suddenly mentioned the nice smell. I turned back in surprise, she told me she had been somewhat interested in coffee recently. I could not let this chance slip away, so I offered her a cup. In a nonchalant and relaxed manner, of course. And she agreed immediately. Focusing on my every movement, I carefully prepared a masterpiece of a cup and she nodded in approval as she drank. Once she was done, she went silent for a moment.

When asked for her opinion, she simply said “It’s bitter”. With a smile, I simply replied “Is that so?” and accepted the tea she offered in return.…Seeing it written down like this, Rin was just being her true self.

That’s it. I was just being oversensitive and everyone hasn’t actually changed. They were just being their kind, cheerful, disappointingly honest selves, that don’t waste time with excessive niceties. The only one that’s changed is me. Dismayed by the thought of leaving, I was the one who started to stir my own heart.

I started to read my favorite edition of “Detective Bon Hebon”. I’ve read it so thoroughly that, not only the ending, but certain scenes I can practically recite by heart and this makes my mind float into the waves of the elegant prose. At the end of the day, reading is my best medicine.

Oh, an email notification. It’s from Mr. Nibuya. The moment I sighed, thinking “Why now?”, I saw the subject: “Plans Moving Forward”. I went pale for a moment. Wait, what am I afraid of? This is my job. I should open the email immediately and check its contents. But first, I’ll drink this unfinished coffee. Then I’ll read it.
