An Old Friend's Visit (旧友の来訪, Kyūyū no Raihō) is the forty-second episode of Ultraman Mebius.

Synopsis[]

GUYS' head, Supreme Chairman Takenaka, comes to Phoenix Nest to speak to Captain Sakomizu. In private, Sakomizu recounts his youth as a Science Patrol officer, his encounter with Zoffy, and why he is actually older than he looks. Meanwhile, GUYS is baffled by the sudden reappearances of Gomora and Red King, which they don't realize marks the beginning of the end.

Plot[]

One day, the fourth generation of the ancient monster Gomora suddenly surfaces on the Johnson Islands, but before anything can be done, GUYS is informed that the monster has abruptly vanished mysteriously.

Shortly afterwards, the team receives a call from Supreme Chairman Takenaka informing them of his arrival, and all the crew members immediately clean up their work stations for the assessment. Later that day, the Chairman comes and affectionately greets Captain Shingo Sakomizu as "Sakkochi", which piques the curiosity of the crew. The team tries to eavesdrop on them to know more, but are caught by Yuki Misaki before they can find anything out.

During their conversation, Takenaka mentions that he and Sakomizu and both 70 years old despite the latter's much more younger body and appeareance. 40 years ago, Sakomizu was part of the SSSP (Science Special Search Party) and once went on a mission to outer space during which he attained the Speed of Light and got caught in a "Rip Van Winkle" effect, which altered his own flow of time and caused him to age normally while keeping his youthful looks and agility. At that moment, a fleet of invading alien ships attacked him but he was saved by an Ultraman, who was none other than Zoffy, who commended Sakomizu for being able to come so far and promised they would meet again. This incident made Sakomizu realize how much the Ultras were doing for the Earth without humans knowing and his testimonies were crucial to form GUYS and keep the team running despite a lack of monster and alien threats for 25 years. After finishing the story, Takenaka gives Sakomizu an unknown METEOR.

Meanwhile, on Tatara Island, Yapool, disguised as the Man in Black, summons the shapeshifting, smoky Terrible-Monster Gadiba, which dives underground and emerges in the form of the skull monster Red King, before causing a ruckus. GUYS is immediately deployed to deal with the monster, and discover that the abilities of this Red King greatly surpass those of previous individuals. Suddenly, the monster leaps out at the GUN Phoenix, but before it can catch them, Mirai transforms into Ultraman Mebius and engages Red King himself. After a short and relatively easy battle, Mebius triumphs over the dinosaur-like creature and finishes him off with his Mebium beam.

However, at that moment, Gadiba leaves Red King's body, coils around it and transforms it into Gomora, revealing that the Gomora that appeared earlier was assimilated by the gaseous monster and now it was able to assume the ancient monster's form. Gomora, now with enhanced abilities, soon proves to be a much tougher opponent than Red King and easily overpowers Mebius, but fortunately Sakomizu lifts the METEOR ban on GUYS, allowing them to fight back by severing Gomora's tail. Mebius recovers, assumes his Burning Brave mode, and with the combined power of his Mebium Burst and GUYS's Invincible Phoenix Discharge, destroys Gomora successfully. Back at the GUYS HQ, Sakomizu commends the members of GUYS and Mebius for their dedication in protecting the Earth.

Unbeknownst to the heroes, Gadiba survived and rejoined its master before both left the scene through one of Yapool's portals.
