The All Ultraman Grand Vote [1][2] It was the ninth and final poll in a series of polls for popular TV franchises organized by NHK that began with the Gundam franchise in 2018. Participants could give five votes on Ultras, three votes on Kaiju, and three on Mecha using a website, which sorted Kaiju and Mecha by the work they debuted in, while also entering the reason for their vote, a nickname, their age range, gender and location. A total of 355,563 votes were made.[3][4][5]
was a poll to vote for the most popular Ultra Heroes, Ultra Kaiju, and Ultra Mecha, held from July 15 to August 21, 2022, with the results announced on September 10, 2022.In the leadup to the results, a TV special explaining the Ultraman Series called History Secrets: Ultraman Historia aired.[6][7] Some rankings at the time were revealed during the show. The special was followed by the first episode of Ultraman on the same day and The Two Ultramen on September 9.[8]

TV Special[]
Announcement! All Ultraman Grand Vote
was a 2-hour TV special where the results of the vote were announced and discussed with various guests. Each entry in the ranking was introduced through a short video clip narrated by Jun Hattori with a comment submitted by a voter read aloud by Michiko Abe. Throughout the show, the placements of the top 50 Kaiju were revealed out of order alongside their respective series' Ultra. Comments from viewers were regularly displayed at the bottom of the screen. To keep to a schedule, Pigmon and Kanegon would appear when discussions went on too long, holding a sign advising them to move onto the next part of the show. The show opened with Ultraman and Alien Baltan appearing and a short video introducing the show. The Ultras ranking from 20 to 11 were then announced, followed by the top 10 Ultra Mecha. A large model city was then placed onstage, which the guests interacted with. Ultras from 10 to 6 were then revealed and Taiyo Sugiura was introduced as a guest.
From the second hour of the show, the top 5 Ultras were announced with longer videos and multiple voter comments. The first was Ultraman at 5, his announcement including a pre-recorded appearance by Susumu Kurobe. Ultraman, Alien Baltan, Gomora and Zetton then appeared onstage and watched as the guests discussed. They were soon joined by Ultraman Zero and Ultraman Z, who were simultaneously revealed to be ranked 4 and 3 respectively, and the three Ultras fended off the Kaiju. After Zero and Z's videos were played, Kohshu Hirano joined the guest panel and the two Ultras continued to react to the guests' discussions. Next, a video featuring Kohji Moritsugu revealed Ultraseven to be in second place and the Ultra joined the stage for the following discussion.
Lastly, the number 1 Ultra Hero was revealed to be Ultraman Tiga, and he joined the stage. A short pre-recorded video of Hiroshi Nagano was also played. After the guests gave some parting words, the show concluded with the guests, as well as the five Kaiju and five Ultras that had appeared thus far, waving to the audience.

Trivia[]
- The vote did not include Ultras, Kaiju or Mecha that debuted after March 2022, meaning Ultraman Decker and the Kaiju and mecha of his series, as well as Ultraman Regulos, were not included, despite having debuted during the vote.
- Ultraman Noa, Ultraman the Next, Ultraman Boy, Sora, as well as the fusion Ultras Ruebe, Gruebe and Reiga were excluded from the list of Ultra Heroes. Ultraman Legend, Ultraman Saga and Ultraman Gingavictory were included however.[9][10]
- The Kaiju listing was extremely expansive:
- It included many relatively obscure Kaiju such as the dancers of New Century 2003 Ultraman Legend: THE KING'S JUBILEE,[25] King Joe Scarlet,[26] the captain of Heller's flagship (from The☆Ultraman episode 47), the background aliens in Ultraman Geed The Movie: Connect the Wishes!, and the three Opt brothers as separate entries. Characters from animated works like Ultraman Kids and Kaiju Step Wandabada were also included.
- The vote considered humanlike beings such as Kenji Tomono, Yuko Minami, Yuzare, Lisa Nanase, and Asahi Minato as Kaiju. Shinichiro Inoue admitted that they were uncertain about including Asahi during the TV special.[27]
- According to the program producer Takashi Nishimura, there were many discussions about which Kaiju to include. Estimating that there would be over 2000 if they included every single one, they aimed to narrow the number down, but there still ended up being over 1500. As an example, he cited three Kaiju from Ultraman Taro: Alien Mefilas II and Reconstructed Bemstar were included, but Revived Eleking was not since it could be considered the same as the original, having simply been resurrected.[28]
- The program supervisor Atsuko Kashiwagi stated they aimed for users to enjoy discovering which Kaiju were included on the website.[28]
- Evil Ultras such as the Giants of Darkness, Belial and Tregear were considered Kaiju. Alternate forms of Belial such as Kaiser Belial and Arch Belial had separate entries.
- However, Kaiju from Ultraman Orb THE ORIGIN SAGA were missing.
- Non-Ultra Heroes such as the Andro Super Warriors and Ultimate Force Zero were not listed in the vote.
- The Clarkov NF-3000 and the Aerial Base were not included as Mecha, despite other Mecha mainly serving as bases like the Phoenix Nest and the Nursedessei being included.
- Some of the images displayed for Mecha were questionable, such as the Jet VTOL being in front of a green screen and the XIG Adventure and Neo Brittania being shown from below.
- During the vote, a series of explanatory videos were released, but are now inaccessible,[29] apart from the Ultra Hero introductions by Mother of Ultra, which were uploaded on Twitter.[30][31]
- Voter demographics specifically for those who voted for Ultraman Leo and Ultraman Taro were revealed during the TV special and can be viewed on the website:
- For Leo, there is a slightly greater number of voters aged 20-29 and 50-59 than the other age brackets. During the TV special, Shinichiro Inoue explained that he may be popular with 20-29 year olds as they were introduced to Leo as Ultraman Zero's master and as a close associate to Ultraman King.[32]
- For Taro, there was a spike in female voters (32.1% compared to the 17.2% for all votes). Inoue explained that this may have been because Taro is the youngest child of the 6 Ultra Brothers, is the son of Father of Ultra and Mother of Ultra, is the only Ultra shown as a child (in Ultraman Story) and his kindness to some Kaiju appealed to female voters.[33]
- While the complete rankings weren't released, it was revealed during the TV special that Mother of Ultra ranked at 42, had 54% female voters and was the most popular for female voters out of all the Ultras.[15]
- Actors Hideyoshi Iwata,[34] Ryuki Kitaoka,[35] Kohei Murakami,[36] Ryosuke Koike,[37] Arisa Sonohara[38] and Ryotaro,[39][40] as well as designers Takahiko Waki[41][42] and Shoma Muto[43] reacted to the vote on Twitter.
