In the Kerigan Star System, space satellite Teto recorded the icy planet Lasesta assimilated into a bigger planet Vividra. Mrs. Kishi saw this incident in the news and reported it to her son, Satoru. While studying the abnormality on Planet Vividra, Super GUTS received a brief alien signal.
At the playground, Satoru confessed his true nature as an alien to his two friends, Minocchi and Tacchan with his brief exposure alarmed Super GUTS again. The two boys however remain loyal to their friendship and promised to keep the Lasesta's presence as a secret. Satoru recalled that long ago, Planet Lasesta entered a glacial period and forced its inhabitants to migrated across the space, taking on disguises based on whatever natives of the planet they situated on. Since then, the race had established two oaths; 1) they will return to Lasesta if the planet finally thawed out and 2) if the Lasesta was destroyed, children who reach the age of 5 Lasesta years (10 Earth years) will return to their original forms and regroup at a rendezvous point (Iris of the Rangifer constellation) to search for a new home planet. Should a young Lasesta refuse to revert to their true form, they will permanently stuck in their disguises for the rest of their lives. In addition to his mother, his late father and grandfather had also lived on Earth for a very long time
When Satoru accidentally transformed into his true form, his mother telepathically alerted him of Super GUTS' arrival but his friends were able to cover him at the last minute. The three decided to visit a shrine where Satoru met Asuka, whose already know of his true identity and purpose. At night, the three boys broke into a research center and the other two bid their farewell as Satoru transformed, but was incapable of flying, let alone being frightened by the Super GUTS' GUTS Eagles. When the team falsely assumed Tacchan and Minocchi were in danger, they open fired and this forced Asuka to transform to save the alien.
"No one knows your future. Do you know why? That's because its for you to create. [...] That's right. No matter where, no matter when, your future is yours to create with your own hands. Let's go"
―Ultraman Dyna.
By assuring Satoru of his own future, Dyna guide the alien in his way out of the planet. Tacchan and Minocchi decided to become astronaut and scientist in the future in hopes of reaching Satoru.
According to a 2000 interview with the episode's writer, Ai Ota:[2]
Ota explained that Satoru's journey into space reflects a child's transition into adolescence, a process marked by learning to make independent choices. While such choices may seem trivial to adults, children live in a world shaped by family, school, and friends, where even small decisions carry significant emotional weight. The uncertainty that comes with growing up stems from the diminishing clarity in choices they once made instinctively, which makes every decision feel more impactful.
When critic Risaku Kiridoshi noted that the children's imagined flight scenes resembled Ultraman's flight poses, Ota confirmed the similarity was intentional. Since Ultraman exists in their world, it made sense that their imaginations would be influenced by his movements.
In response to Kiridoshi's observation about Satoru expressing fear of flying and confiding in Dyna, Ota admitted that she herself tends to be timid. She shared that entering new environments often made her anxious, and even now, as a freelancer, she constantly faces external uncertainties.
Regarding Dyna's line to Satoru, "No one knows your future. Do you know why? Because it's yours to create," Ota said the message she most wanted to convey to children was: "Decide for yourself." While decisions carry risk, and even mistakes have consequences, taking ownership is part of growing up. This idea also made her reflect on whether she herself could live without betraying those words.
Ota added that her goal for this episode was to convey that "becoming an adult doesn't mean being completely grown up." Since Ultraman is primarily a children's show, she avoided unrealistic solutions where Ultraman magically fixes everything. Instead, she aimed to show that real-life problems often require personal growth and reflection, and those are the true challenges we face.
The photograph of the deceased father shown in the episode was actually a picture of the cinematographer, Takehiro Kuramochi.
The script was originally written for director Teruyoshi Ishii. However, after reading it, Ishii felt it didn't suit the Ultraman series and passed on the project. Harada, recognizing the script's strength despite its subtle effects work, decided to direct it himself. He felt only he could bring its emotional narrative to life.
Harada also commented on the children's disguises. He wanted their costumes to feel authentic without implying they were impoverished. For example, one boy wears his father's golf clothes, which explains his unusual outfit. Another boy comes from a working-class family, and a line in the script referencing his flashy older sister helps contextualize his appearance.
Kiridoshi also pointed out a remarkable moment during the telepathy scene between Asuka and Satoru at the shrine. When Satoru turns his head, his scarf falls off, and a withered leaf drifts down from above. According to Kuramochi, this was a complete accident. Harada remarked that sometimes, such unplanned moments can create a surprising sense of harmony.
During filming, light rain began to fall. Though the assistant director suggested they continue, Kuramochi and others disagreed. While the rain wouldn't be visible on camera, they felt it was unrealistic to show children happily playing outdoors in such conditions. Filming was postponed for a day.
The "secret base" where the children gather was proposed by art designer Tetsuya Uchida. He said, "I wanted to build the kind of playground I used to dream about as a kid. What do you think of this design?" Everyone loved the idea, and an open-style set was created to bring it to life.
Takeshi Tsuruno later revealed that the shrine scene was filmed at Anazawa Tenjinsha in Inagi City.[4]
In the episode, the constellation referred to as the Reindeer is mentioned. Historically, it was located near Camelopardalis during the 18th century, but it was later removed when the total number of recognized constellations was reduced to 88.
In 2020, this episode was selected for screening as part of the Ultra Science Fantasy Hour on Ultraman YouTube channel, with its main slogan being You build the future(君が未来を作る, Kimi ga mirai o tsukuru).[5]
