- ―Agams' mantra, rephrasing Laelia.
Agams the Bazdo Ultraman Decker, who spent the entirety of the series' first half posing as TPU's scientist, Yuichiro Asakage .[1][2][3][4]
was a former antagonist ofConception[]
Etymology[]
The name "Agams" is derived from Arabic words for "yesterday" ( "amas"), "today" ("alyawm"), and "tomorrow" ("ghadd").[5][6]
History[]
Future[]
Agams was originally a Bazdo native who lived alongside his wife, Laelia. One day when mankind established contact with Bazdo's people, Agams participated in the war against the Sphere forces by supplying the opposing forces with Bazdo's scientific technology. Over time, Laelia became interested in the Earth, starting to learn their language and hoping to go there someday, and shared her desire with Agams. As the Spheres started to contain the planet in Sphere Barrier, Agams continued his life until one day he lost Laelia to one of the Sphere Soldiers' attacks. The Fall of Bazdo Blaming mankind as a whole for bringing their conflict against the Spheres to his planet (despite the fact the enemy would have ventured to their world anyway), Agams went back in time as far as he could go, taking the Spheres with him and destroying the time travel system in the process to prevent others from using it as well. A Promise for Tomorrow
Agams arrived on the Earth and took up the name Yuichiro Asakage to blend in with humans and join the TPU's Technology Division. While the exact point of time is unclear, it is said that the DG Plan he was part of had started at some point during the Giants of Darkness' active period. However, the project was shelved after the defeat of the Giants of Darkness brought about an age of peace. Machine God Deployed
Ultraman Decker[]
Some time after the Spheres started attacking the modern day Earth, Asakage managed to convince the TPU to restart development on the DG001 project while also redeveloping space exploration equipment such as the GUTS Hawk and HANE2 into combat-oriented arsenal for GUTS-Select's use. Special Summary: The Return of Marluru Asakage first introduced himself to the reformed GUTS-Select's rookie members to introduce their mecha and helped out in evaluating each of their piloting skills. Despite his initial distrust of them, Asakage gradually acknowledged their skills over time. Move Out, GUTS-Select!
When the DG001 project was greenlit, Asakage handed the plan to the staff of Special Section 3 to start building Terraphaser. Special Summary: The Return of Marluru He would also install the Hyper Thorn Laser program into GUTS Gryphon to evaluate its ability while retrieving feedback data for Terraphaser. Standing Tall for Someone Special
Terraphaser's testing day proved to be a challenge when Gazort and Raibasser arrived to disrupt the test run after sensing it as a potential threat. With the robot's original AI disbled by their attack, Agams had HANE2 act as a replacement to pilot the robot while he continued to gather the feedback data. Machine God Deployed
This continued as he input the piloting program to HANE2 just in time for Sphere-Neomegas' attack. After the monster's destruction, the feedback data from HANE2 was extracted by Murahoshi and given to Asakage, who would later discover Kanata Asumi's identity as the current host of Ultraman Decker. Neomegas Strikes Back
Due to his major role in Terraphaser's development, Asakage shared Terraphaser's popularity as the robot fought and defeated monsters alongside Ultraman Decker. When Spheresaurus was resurrected and resumed its activity, Agams dropped his disguise to show his true colors, and hijacked the robot to assist the Spheres in their fight against mankind, intending to have the creatures succeeded in assimilating with Planet Earth itself to eliminate humanity before they ever get the chance to expand into space. Agams managed to defeat Decker and was about to kill Kanata, until Decker Asumi arrived from the future and transformed into Ultraman Decker to fight Agams, though their battle ended in a stalemate as both blasted each other away.[3][4]Birth of a Dark God
Still intending to eliminate the light of Ultraman Decker, Agams hunted down both Asumis and located them in a forest where he unleashed Terraphaser once again and shot at them. Determined to stop the fighting between Decker and Agams, Kanata took back the Ultra D Flasher and transformed into Ultraman Decker, gaining the power of Dynamic Type from his will to never give up, allowing him to turn the tables and defeat both Spheresaurus and Terraphaser. Having been injured in the battle, Agams was forced to go into hiding. A Promise for Tomorrow
Some time later, Agams reemerged in public and was spotted by a TPU patrol unit, who attempted to arrest him. To his surprise, Agams was saved by Yapool, who approached him with an offer to cooperate in defeating Ultraman Decker because of their shared hatred for the light. After Yapool had an Aribunta destory a city, GUTS-Select was deployed as they had predicted, and the two villains planned to eliminate their ground units and dispose of Kanata. When he had the chance, Agams used his pocket dimension to trap Kanata within, where the two had an intense conversation where Agams disregarded Kanata's attempts to "save" him as Decker Asumi wanted. Their continued scuffling led them to exit the pocket dimension only for GUTS-Select to be attacked by Aribunta, and Agams responded by summoning Terraphaser when Kanata transformed into Decker. Yapool reappeared again once Agams had been defeated and ejected out of Terraphaser, and took on Agams' form to trick Decker into protecting him from Aribunta's explosion, exploiting Kanata's wish to save Agams, sending him to outer space through a dimensional hole while Agams was safe at a distance. Invitation from Another Dimension
When GUTS-Select went to investigate Sphere readings at a power plant, Agams followed them around and stayed out of sight. The Sphere Soldier used to power the S-Plasma Breeder Reactor went out of control, destroying the facility and forming Sphere-Geomos in the process. While GUTS-Select deployed more of their forces to attack the creature, Agams revealed himself to Kanata Asumi, reminding him that humans would ultimately cause the destruction of Planet Bazdo in the future, pointing out humanity's selfish hubris in their path of development, causing Kanata to doubt what he was fighting for. Ultraman Dyna came from the future out of one of Sphere-Geomos' space-time portals, enraging Agams as he joined the battle using Terraphaser. When Kanata finally picked up the resolve to transform into Decker again, the two Ultras fought against Sphere-Geomos and Terraphaser until Agams had to retreat due to the Sphere presence inside Terraphaser threatening to take him over. The Price of Prosperity
Afterwards, Agams hacked into the GUTS-Select hotline to call out captain Murahoshi to confront him, knowing the rest of GUTS-Select would come as well, intending to get rid of them as they were his largest obstacle. He summoned a Chandlar in an attempt to wipe them out but the team managed to expect that he would summon a monster, forcing Agams to retreat in all the commotion without completing his objective. Left with little choice, Agams summoned the Terrapahser and integrated several Spheres into it, even at the cost of his own memories, to power up the robot. Pushing on with his revenge, Agams fought Decker and each of them blew the other away in an explosion. In the aftermath of the battle, Agams was brought into custody, seemingly without any of his memories left. The Fall of Bazdo
Agams was then taken in by the TPU, interrogated by several of their members but each attempt failed to make him talk until he was faced with Kanata Asumi, getting Agams to open up about his past life and deceased wife. The sight of the Sphere Soldiers attacking was enough to painfully restore Agams' memories, going outside and summoning the Terraphaser amid all the confusion, commanding the Spheres to form three Sphere Obelisks to signal for the Mother Spheresaurus to come to Earth. The Sky of Despair
Agams and Kanata had one final battle when GUTS-Select managed to destroy two of the three Sphere Obelisks, despite the Spheres repairing one of them. Kanata's words and determination managed to bring Agams back to reality, releasing him from the control of the Spheres by making him remember Laelia's wishes, now understanding Earth's destruction isn't what the latter would have wanted the two of them worked together to destroy the Sphere Obelisks, ending Agams' revenge. However, the Mother Spheresaurus descended onto the Earth after having fought against Ultraman Trigger in space. It defeated the two Ultras while Agams got in the way of its destruction beam to save Kanata to make up for what he's done, dying in the process. End of a Dream
Agams and Lealia finally found peace after Decker, Trigger and GUTS-Select's efforts put an end to the Sphere threat with the destruction of Mother Spheresaurus, as the Bazdo couple appeared to Kanata one last time before they passed on to the afterlife. The Light Far Beyond
Profile[]
- Stats
- Powers and Weapons
- Genius-Level Intellect: Agams is an expert in technology,[2][1] having designed the GUTS Hawk, GUTS Gryphon and Terraphaser. It also means that he is able to improvise by using HANE2 as a substitute AI for Terraphaser, hooking the former to its pedestal while making small adjustments to the systems.
- Aircraft Piloting: Although never stated, the official websites claim that as Asakage, Agams can act as a substitute pilot for GUTS-Select's mecha if the situation calls for it,[2][1] suggesting that he has a small degree of pilot training as a TPU member.
- Bodysuit: After resuming his original identity, Agams wears a special bodysuit that appears as black with light blue markings, akin to Terraphaser's color motif. The bodysuit also allows him to bio-link with Terraphaser as a motion pilot,[3][4] wherein the robot's wires can plug onto his back, though the process is demonstrated to be painful at first. Besides, the long usage of bio-linking with Terraphaser will cause Agams to be corroded by the Sphere inside its engine, causing his memory and consciousness loss.
- Phase Riser : A gun designed with Terraphaser's head as its barrel. It works by emitting the Ark Signal to hijack Terraphaser from HANE2's control.[7] Other than functioning as a normal gun (firing energy bullets), it can also scan Mons Dimensional Cards, each with purposes pertaining to their roles for Terraphaser.
- Pocket Dimension: Agams can use the Phase Riser to open up a bluish pocket dimension where he can hide himself and others. It is where he stores the Terraphaser when it is not in use.
- Mons Dimension Cards : A set of cards which houses the powers of an Ultra Kaiju.
- Pendant: A pendant that allows Agams to control Chandlar to fight as he wills, he uses this as a substitute fighting method to prevent side-effects of bio-linking with Terraphaser.
Mons Dimension Cards in Possession[]
- Terraphaser: Used to activate Terraphaser's Phase 2 and as a "start-up key" for Agams when hijacking the robot.
- Gomora: Used to supply Terraphaser with the Ultra Oscillation Wave.
- Eleking: Used to supply Terraphaser with the Electric Discharge Beam.
- Neomegas: Used to supply Terraphaser with a heat ray.
- Mons-Ahgar: Used to supply Terraphaser with the Great Destruction Beam Shell.

Trivia[]
- According to Yu Koyanagi, Asakage's true identity being Agams was known to the cast members since the start of filming so as to challenge their acting expressions by portraying their characters being oblivious to the alien in disguise.[9][10][11]
- According to Koyanagi's interview, from the moment he received the offer to play the role, he knew that "although Asakage is a scientist, he is actually a villain." At first, he found this concept quite strange, but after reading the script, he naturally understood why it was this way. Consequently, he deliberately created some misleading elements to keep the true identity of the villain concealed. Initially, Asakage appears as a somewhat stern scientist, but as the story progresses, he gradually reconciles with others and becomes more friendly. Just when things seem to stabilize, a major twist occurs.[12]
- In reality, Asakage Yuichiro and Agams were initially categorized as two separate characters. Asakage was a character that existed from the beginning, with the prototype being Dr. Iwamoto from the original Ultraman series.[5]
- The character of Agams was finalized only in the later stages of the series' early production. The main reason for this was the need for a recurring antagonist who would utilize specialized props. Since these props were already showcased in the first half of the series, the antagonist was planned to appear earlier, with significant activity beginning after the episode 12. Therefore, this character needed to be a recurring one and not too conspicuous.[5]
- The planning team once considered having GUTS-Select include a janitor character for this role. However, it was deemed unsuitable to have a character that overtly displayed villainous traits. The antagonist needed to be surprising to the audience and operate from behind the scenes. Due to various factors, the plan to have an AI character as the main enemy was ultimately scrapped, and it was decided instead to have Agams directly pilot Terraphaser.[5]
- Under Director Masayoshi Takesue's suggestion, the idea that "the true identity of the scientist is the villain" would also be surprising. Ultimately, Agams and Asakage were merged into a single character. This decision was influenced by Takesue's previous experience filming Ultraman R/B, where the two antagonist characters felt incomplete and half-hearted. Thus, it was deemed more appropriate to consolidate the villain role into Agams alone for this series.[5]
- Agams shares several similarities with the minor antagonist Hiroyuki Yamazaki from Ultraman Dyna. Both characters are scientists who belong to a defense team but betray and lose control due to resentment.
- Asakage's surname is believed to be inspired by Yutaro Asahina, a main character from Ultraman Taro.
