  • The sequel to this episode is episode 47 "Goodbye to Darkness".
  • This episode marks Keiichi Hasegawa's debut as a writer in the Heisei Ultraman series. Previously, he was part of the production team, primarily working on set decoration.
    • Even while working as a set designer, he found time to submit story ideas and write original suspense scripts based on Ultraseven. Eager to write, Hasegawa asked the director and producer to read some of his earlier scripts before this episode went into production. This opportunity led to his official debut as a screenwriter.[2]
    • Though some limits were set to keep it from becoming too disturbing, the episode is regarded as a horror story. According to Hasegawa, producer Masato Oida asked him to write a story centered on the theme of "invasion," which became the basis for this episode. Hasegawa, a fan of writers such as Stephen King and Dean Koontz, also drew inspiration from their works.
    • The episode is believed to have been inspired by Stephen King's The Mist. In one scene, Michiru references the book, describing it as "a story about people trapped in a supermarket, hiding from monsters in the mist until the world ends."
  • Even if characters from earlier episodes were brought back, most viewers probably wouldn't remember them. So, Hasegawa decided to set Michiru as Professor Ezaki's daughter. This way, he could show that other characters existed in the same world.
  • Director Tsugumi Kitaura remembered that the team wanted to make something that was really scary. So, they tried out a horror style. The scene where Daigo is thrown into the river wasn't hard to film, but it looks amazing.
