2000 Attacks (二千匹の襲撃, Nisenbiki no Shūgeki) is the ninth episode of Ultraman Dyna.

Synopsis[]

Super GUTS, in collaboration with Ultraman Dyna, manages to defeat the monster Giakuuda. However, despite the monster being shattered, each individual cell of the creature begins moving again with formidable vitality! To save the city from the onslaught of the two thousand cell clusters and the chaos they cause, a large-scale diversion operation is launched...

Plot[]

One stormy night, the kaiju Giakuuda spontaneously appears after a lightning bolt had stricken a ruin of some sort. Super GUTS is en route to intercept the kaiju from reaching a solar power generation facility. Asuka, in Alpha, is ordered to rush in first to halt Giakuuda's movement. He gets struck by the kaiju's plasma and his controls go haywire. Just before he crashes, Asuka manages to eject while Super GUTS recombine the GUTS Eagle. Asuka transforms into Ultraman Dyna. He brawls with Giakuuda briefly and attempts to bring it away from the power facility; transforming into Strong Type and demonstrating incredible physical might in the process. Eventually, Dyna manages to hurl Giakuuda into the air to allow Super GUTS to finish it with Tornado Thunder - scattering the pieces of the kaiju across the area.

The following day these pieces travel down a stream and into the Machida district. That very night, they manifest into a swarm of small Giakuuda, and begin feeding on electricity. Asuka, Ryo, Kohda and Kariya head towards the scene. Back at the command center, Super GUTS determine that multiple areas have completely lost power due to the attacks; and that they are facing upwards of two thousand enemies. On the scene. Kohda and Kariya discover that destroying these small Giakuuda leads only to the revival of even more and even smaller Giakuuda. They return to Grandome to regroup.

Nakajima formulates a plan. Using the power generation facility, Super GUTS use an electrically charged trap field in order to lure all two thousand components to a designated spot, where TPC ground forces will kill each of them using napalm cannons. Initially, the operation appears to be a success. However, the sudden appearance of a thunderstorm caused the trap field to lose its charge. As a result, the Giakuuda began to scatter. As a last resort, Asuka becomes Miracle Type Dyna and electrically charges the trap field himself. The small kaiju cluster on the field and merge back into the fully-formed Giakuuda. Now, the two begin to battle; culminating in the Ultra creating a black hole in space and throwing Giakuuda into it.

Super GUTS celebrate their victory and learn humility in that they are not invincible. Asuka postulates that the appearance of Giakuuda was due to the will of the Earth wanting to remind humans, who had been living in artificially lighten cities for so long, what true darkness is like - almost akin to the darkness of space. Hibiki remarks that while humans may forget important things, they must still press forwards and seek the light known as the "future".
